Work Permits
LMIA & LMIA-Exempt pathways to legally work in Canada — we handle the entire process from employer connection to permit approval.
Two Pathways to Work in Canada
LMIA-Supported
Labour Market Impact Assessment
The LMIA pathway requires a Canadian employer to demonstrate that no qualified Canadian worker is available for the position. Once approved, you can apply for a work permit tied to that employer.
- Employer applies for LMIA from Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC)
- Proves no qualified Canadian worker is available for the position
- Once approved, worker uses LMIA number to apply for work permit
- Valid for specific employer and position
- Strong pathway to Permanent Residency through Express Entry
LMIA-Exempt
International Mobility Program
Certain workers can obtain a Canadian work permit without an LMIA under the International Mobility Program. These pathways are faster and often available to those already in Canada.
- International Mobility Program (IMP) — no LMIA required
- Intra-company transfers for multinational employees
- International agreements (CUSMA/USMCA, CETA)
- Significant benefit to Canada (researchers, artists, athletes)
- Open work permits for certain eligible categories
